Moderated a fun panel on reducing methane emissions while increasing rice production at DC Climate Week today featuring @ecomarci.bsky.social (UNEP), Brian Segal (IndigoAg) and Jennifer Norfolk (Global Heat Reduction Initiative). A few things I learned: 🧵 1/

Fabulous panel yesterday focused on efforts to reduce methane from rice paddies, incl. @ecomarci.bsky.social (UNEP), Jennifer Norfolk (Global Heat Reduction Initiative), and Brian Segal (IndigoAg). @waiterich.bsky.social (WRI) did an incredible job moderating!

@Indigoag do you have a position on biochar? Particularly in regards to the terraton initiative and paying farmers for better soil management. I attempted a brief scan but did not find anything

This week I had a fantastic time visiting @Indigoag, giving a talk on microbes, and getting to meet a great group of people there. Humans are poised to take the next great leap in agriculture and microbes are making that possible. It was inspiring to see the work going on there!

Last week I was introduced to this amazing #sciart of crocheted fungi in petri plates. It was made by scientist Olivia Gregorio & was shared w/me by scientist Aric Wiest at @Indigoag. HOW COOL ARE THEY?! These fungi are Trichoderma & Epicoccum and live in plants (as endophytes).

These festive microbes are from plants-some microbes like these form relationships w/plants that help the plant grow & fight disease & pests. In this holiday season I am particularly thankful for diverse, healthy relationships! #sciart #scicomm #agarart @Indigoag @ASMicrobiology

Happy holidays! Below are plant microbes painted in the shape of snowflakes. The next time you are in a beautiful snowstorm remember that at the heart of each snowflake is often a tiny microbe. https://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/04/science/04obsnow.html image courtesy of @Indigoag...

At a business meeting at a microbe company (@Indigoag). People are representing the glory of microbes through products (AND fashion). Check out these fungi socks. #scisock #sciart #scicom #scicomm

Probably the most gorgeous photo of plant microbial diversity I’ve ever seen. I’m so proud to work w/the great scientist & artist who can be found on instagram at under.the.scope. This is a photo of some of the natural microbial diversity w/in plants @Indigoag #plants #scicomm

What I love about #agarart is that it asks you to question assumptions. In this case that microbes are ‘gross.’ If we question what is beauty, we can also start to question what is possible &*that*is where we find hope. Here are plant microbes by @Indigoag scientists #vdaymicrobe

What a fantastic #vdaymicrobe prepared from plant-associated microbes by the scientists at @Indigoag. These microbes form mutualisms w/plants, so maybe this is a #valentinesday pic to remind you of how powerful relationships can be. Aww!! #pink #ValentinesDay2019 #Valentinesday

In all honesty, I think I first fell in love with microbes because of their looks. Then I was won over by how they help me everyday be a stronger person with a more enjoyable life. I love them & their microscopic alchemy. My photo from the @Indigoag lab plates. #MySO #stem

Have you ever thought about how magical it is that inside a vial like this we hold millions of miceobial cells in a suspended state of animation so that we can grow them in the future?! A laser printed vial from the culutre collection group at @Indigoag #culture #smile

Plant endophytes—microbes like these that live within plant tissue—can help plants withstand stresses like drought and low nutrients. If that isn’t plant+microbe love I don’t know what is. #agarart from @Indigoag scientists. #scicom #scicomm

Happy #IWD2019! This #agarart plate was prepared by some of the fantastic women scientists at @Indigoag. The naturally vividly colored microbes are those that live inside some plants.
