#Intellectualism
Anti-intellectualism unfortunately has a long history in the United States

Proud to be stupid, and they giggle about it

Their intellectual superiors -like scientists and other experts- are portrayed as crazy or nerds

Independent thought is not often enough celebrated, conformity is

We built and participated in parties that became better at dividing people along ideological lines than at building common ground.

We allowed intellectualism to make us dismissive of people who express very real problems in raw, angry or unsophisticated ways.

i will admit a level of anti-intellectualism around this

it's not 'anti-intellectualism' to view Lichtenstein's work as an extension of the exploitative, extractive systems that grind working cartoon artists into dust. Are we saying people Art Spiegelman are for 'anti-intellectualism' now?

Call AI what it is, a superweapon developed by the ultra rich to win the war against public literacy and intellectualism. if the rich could, they would just replace every public school with a chatbot, which would also accomplish another of their goals (easy access to your children)

This speaks to their really incredible levels of entitlement. They really see themselves as historic figures, giants of technology and intellectualism, prophetic saviours who should be telling us all how to run our lives, our systems, our world. It's both a cautionary tale and genuinely pathetic.

It’s a depressing indictment of games culture that some of the most celebrated games are made by people who are so aggressively anti-intellectual and anti-art

The people who made games you probably have heard repeatedly praised as beacons of artistic intellectualism like Fez and Braid

and I've had a rewarding career as a scientist, although I chose this route out of pathological curiosity, not to become wealthy. This whole binary labor/elite bullshit discourse chaps my ass. Society needs us all, and it is not zero-sum. It's creeping anti-intellectualism bred with materialism 2/2

Words, what do they mean anymore?!?!

I'm pretty sure many scientists hate LLMs too and would happily join the Butlerian Jihad, just as revenge for the amount of anti-intellectualism they've fueled in the last four years.

Yess! Intellectualism! Your cat is beautiful

I hate when people say old games look bad when there are good and bad looking games from ANY generation. It doesn't matter how old something is, and it doesn't have to be taken in the context of its release.

The faux intellectualism surrounding graphical advancements is so vapid.

40 years of anti-intellectualism brought America to this moment.

I’m begging you to fix stupid.

Salon and the Atlantic love posting bad faith article under the guise of “intellectualism.”

The anti-intellectualism in the Sonic fanbase, let alone the Internet, is so potent that is stink like aged Gouda cheese.

It's so palpable that could used as a fabric for clothing.

It's like that annoying-ass ringing when you have tinnitus, but it never f$%king goes away.

And I hate it.

Green still likes kind of twee characters who express their feelings/story themes by quoting philosophy and poetry (although it often works) but in the age of anti-intellectualism and slop I frankly don't have a problem with a 22 year old quoting Kierkegaard as part of their flirting. Good for them

Anti intellectualism has always been a feature of American culture, but now it's fully in control. If nothing else, this should be an era whose end result is the complete and absolute shaming of the ignorant. The ignorant need to be called out, and shamed.

The anti-intellectualism that the GOP has worked for for years has led us to worse educational outcomes and has been a direct link to MAGA ……… reason and critical thinking are not in their wheel house 😬 So of course starting a random “school” is fine. They work to destroy real education

2016 election is almost more than a decade ago. Unite the Right is just under. Antisemitism & Nazis on the right have been well documented. Anti-intellectualism on the right has been on display day 1 of the first admin. If that doesn't give you a clue to look into those areas he needs to look

“I’m tired of ignorance held up as inspiration, where vicious anti-intellectualism is considered a positive trait, and where uninformed opinion is displayed as fact.”

Another good take by @brianbeutler.bsky.social...it reminds me of the importance of reading and understanding Hofstadter's Anti-intellectualism in American Life, which starts from the decline of McCarthyism...
