I went interrailing in the mid 00s. Got the train from Bristol Temple Meads to Reading, had a panic attack, then got the next train back. Spent the rest of the summer playing Metal Gear Solid 3. Friends still think I travelled around France.

My *actual* Plan A is to take my favourite quasi-grandchild on a interrailing trip that ends in Switzerland so, you know, not far off.

I’m for mandatory reporting, but it *does* have trade-offs (e.g. just as child endangerment laws about mandatory investigation ends up with Kirsty Whatsherface having the police come around because someone complained about her kid going interrailing without her).

One of my bonkers ideas, which i really do sincerely believe in is that there should be an EU funded European bullet train.
Like you could do interrailing or travel across Europe entirely by bullet train so wouldn't need to fly. (I'm there's some geographic reason this would be infeasible)
