#Internalities:
Aw damn, my internalities conflict with my externalities.

You take power over what you can control and fix what you can.

Aw shit, these externalities conflict with my internalities.

You realize there is so much beyond your control and you can only fix what you can.

I'm just an anthropologist sitting in wonderment that so many people cannot imagine internalities or cultural forms different from their own 🙃

I do think it’s tricky because so much of what makes that kinda thing healthy or unhealthy is unobservable internalities

the externalities are now internalities

I think there is a great speculative fiction to be written about life after death inside the machine now that the majority of our internalities have been documented by our phones.

I've been thinking a lot lately about the different ways and approaches that people - and here I mean players, designers, observers, armchair pundits and more - have towards character internalities in tabletop RPGs. whether and how to mechanize them.

This is a thread about Mara's Gamethinks.

In addition to robbing women of ownership over their own sexuality, I think it also reinforces gender boundaries in a way that is kinda toxic and harmful. It betrays a belief that there are binary, deeply gendered internalities that cannot be empathized with or understood in the abstract.

It is contagious, somehow, in both its externalities and internalities.

Stellar erotica. The power dynamics at play are so intensely fucked, and the internalities of Bitter's well executed characters piles fuel onto the red-hot obscenity on display. Go and read.
I wrote something different.

Ik its unfair to say anyone would have been trans but Satoshi Kon sure did make a lot of art about complex, layered, messy internalities of womanhood from the inside

We hear about “negative externalities” in environmental and economic discourses. This post made me think about focusing on “positive internalities.”

"As with many digital [vibe coding] doesn't fully stand up to scrutiny but show a deep misunderstanding of how software is made, the potential externalities (and internalities) software brings and a disdain for experience and embodied knowledge."

I seriously think that we underestimate just how traumatic toxic masculinity is for the person experiencing it.

They are constantly afraid of external threats, from strangers to peers, and they fear themselves - internalities that could betray them at any moment with a girly thought or feeling.
“oh, you think conservative men are terrified of big cities? common mistake. we are actually all just self-taught jason bournes.”

Agree with this. After teaching about 'Nudges', this is a real eye opener conversation between @unlearnecon.bsky.social & Nick Chater. We've been given some book vouchers by students and will certainly be buying this book - It's On You. And we love the term 'internalities' as well! #EconSky
Wonderful conversation on @unlearnecon.bsky.social's live channel regarding behavioural science. Worth a listen for all who are skeptical that "nudging" people toward better choices can solve our societal issues!

Essentially pavloving themselves into arousal over things they've been taught to hate.

But that doesnt fully encompass all the bizarre ways people can rationalize their bigotries into any number of odd externalities/internalities

The horseshoe theory of externalities — eventually they become internalities.

So it's not a break/fix issue, but a design issue. Child commerce, apparently, packs a lot of violent internalities, to put it lightly.

Minds (internalities) are process systems enacted by cognitive subagents within a substrate. Ideas are procedurally realized epistemic objects which are private cognitive tokens. Communication is using epistemic tokens to give instructions to others to reenact meaning using cognitive tokens.

like yes people have subterranean internalities rendered opaque even to themselves but some of it's to the point where hashem herself forbid anyone might realize anything about themselves aloud in conversations of any particular complexity or honesty with any sincerity if it has scary words in it

Current AI systems are just abstract token shufflers. Their internalities exist in a disembodied state that has no persistence. They cannot touch or learn from the world. They cannot designate and adjudicate what things are like to them.

This is why they are not conscious.

Sick and tired of eeeeveryone saying I'm a P-Zombie when I'M NOT and I KNOW I'm not!!!!
Gonna prove all of you sickos wrong. I've devised a new device that lets you peer into all the internalities of someone else's life.

Every day I am confronted with a new Type Of Guy with fundamentally unknowable internalities.

I usually don’t really think about my ocs’ internalities in terms of specific diagnoses all that often but I do have a mental tierlist going of which ocs are most likely to be autistic and baron is not at the bottom.

I keep thinking that it would make a good movie, seeing scenes and framing in my mind’s eye. But LeGuin’s descriptions and explanations and the character’s internalities are so important. They’re inseparable.
