A reminder: you will not see Annette or Traveling Mercies on any Michelin lists because, although Chef has racked up accolades from Bon App Best New Chef to JBFA Best Chef Mountain Region and Mercies was nominated for a JBFA Best New Bar, we are in Aurora, and Aurora didn't pay up, so we're out.

Truly, you aren't going to get a medal for making the most shit from scratch at home or whatever. There's no JBFA for home cooking. Stocking frozen and canned foods that help me feed my family faster or in between trips to the market or store is like hiring a prep cook, lol.

Funny chatting JBFA nom with my coworkers for the first time, five days later, first time we were all together since then. All of us feel anxious about making the final list. But also: we made the semifinals accidentally! We had no idea best new bar was a JBFA candidate, it's new this year!

Semi-sub-skeet but def noticing the one local chef who got a JBFA nod this week whose post about it lacks pretty much any reference to the hard work of his staff at his restaurants. Guess that's one ego-driven cis guy I don't wanna ever work for.

Last night a guest brought in treats from Poulette (JBFA nominated CO bakery) for the staff (what a baller move) and I just shared the one I brought home with Jon-- basically a vanilla creme pat filled croissant that was coated in cinnamon sugar, and he declared it one of the best things EVER.
Also never been more nervous at work than the night we had like 3 JBFA nominees/winners in the bar and they ordered the mussel toast (it's topped with chives) and were like "we judge a place based on how they cut the chives and the bread."

If I do end up getting to go to the JBFA awards (a long shot!), I will be really sad I didn't buy that Rachel Antonoff dress printed with squash blossoms and artichokes I really wanted last year because it would be the perfect thing to wear.

Somehow we ended up seated next to a solo diner in town for Aspen F&W who was at the JBFA awards last week and had pics of himself with all the winners. He kept showing us pictures on his phone and name dropping. The host checked to see if we needed to be rescued 😂
Had the best meal at Annette tonight. Sat at the bar, chatted with all my coworkers, got my ribeye, got the spring panzanella with the chicken jus croutons. Sous sent us some extra dishes. I work at a special place that makes great food and takes great care of our guests.

Bar was busy enough I stayed til 8 after finishing my prep shift at like 5:30. Also going to go in at 5 tomorrow just to basically be the bar back/backwait/general helper because we’re now too busy for only 3 staff on Saturdays. The JBFA bump is real.
