imo, part of the issue is that kdramas have managed to explode in a way jdramas haven't, primarily because jdramas feel much lower budget and don't have many of the innovations that people expect out of TV
(jpop similar story - kpop finds it easier to internationalize, imo)

watching anime and tokusatsu from the early 2000s and really noticing the connection between how toku(and jdramas) used those cameras insane exposure and anime replicating it...

a lot of jdramas are fairly mediocre but japanese cinema can do some really incredible things

4. Accessibility: until recently Jdramas weren't available on most platforms because of a lack of interest on the part of Japanese networks. But Netflix & Studio Dragon are disrupting production and now a lot more Jdramas are available on legal platforms, including older and classic dramas
