So what was it, anyway?
Chocolate?
Ice cream?
Mini cakes?
Manju (Japanese sweet bun)?
Maybe it was dango (rice dumpling)...

An unbelievably bright red crab!!

Its Japanese name, Akamanju-gani, comes from its resemblance to a red manju, a traditional Japanese sweet🦀✨️

To combat the heat it is customary to eat eel on 'doyō ushi-no-hi' (土用丑の日 'midsummer day of the ox' - July 26th this year).

Narumi-mochi Honten's (鳴海餅本店) 'unagi-manju' (うなぎ万寿) is an adorable alternative to gobbling up real Japanese eel (an endangered species).

'Unagi-manju' (うなぎ万寿) is only sold for a very limited time around 'doyō ushi-no-hi', so you have to hurry to catch this unusual sweet😋

Stopping off at Toraya for their delicious iced anko (red bean) matcha latte and a manju — accompanied by a good dozen Japanese grandmas also enjoying a fancy tea/coffee and sweet treat. Top Tokyo vibes for sure. #JohnDoesJapan

For most of the game, the player can collect these Japanese sweet buns called manjū (the official guidebook Romanizes them as “manjyu”). You can eventually meet the Bun King, who tabulates all the manjū you’ve eaten. I appreciate his hustle but I’m more of a Tiddy King.
