This view across the River Cam by the lock gates hasn't changed much since I painted this watercolour on the spot 30 years ago. I later produced a small oil using this as a sketch and I posted that on here recently.

Jesus Green, E2, bequeathed in 1679 to fund almshouses in Barnet, 15 miles away. Victorian terraces built as social housing in the 1860s. In 1979 residents blocked a motorway scheme through the estate. Now a Conservation Area.

Will @eddavey.libdems.org.uk make the case for #Localgov in Cambridge to tax more of the wealth being generated here (including what Scotland has in tourism levies which cover AirBnB) to pay this?

Much as I quite like the views from the top, the building itself is a monstrous carbuncle that protrudes out from the rooftops of Park Parade on JesusGreen and is a hideous eyesore. The proposals would only make it worse. They could redo the facade so it matches St John's College Chapel.
