Spotted sandpiper “workin’” the rocks and shaking his booty. These birds spend the winter with us here in San Diego, but we don’t get to see their pretty spots. 🪶

An unusual view, the underside of an old jetty at Hunterston, on Scotlands Clyde coast, with mirror calm waters creating a bit of an optical illusion!

I love Ibis & have them foraging in my garden. Unfortunately they often suffer injury from fishing lines & hooks carelessly discarded boat ramps & jetty.

For #BirdOfTheDay #BCD, a Black Oystercatcher with its catch in Marina Del Rey. I love seeing these guys along the jetty! If you move slowly, you can get close enough for a half decent phone photo.

Alumina Shipments:
2 underway, 2 docked at st. petersberg
Currently no alumina being loaded at Aughinish due to the jetty being occupied with ships offloading bauxite and caustic soda.

Arno Bay jetty.
South Australia has a lot of jetties. They were important for grain transport before bulk handling took over in the 1950s.
Many of these old jetties need expensive repairs now. A local told me that this one is solid though.

🧵 1/n Leopold or Leo, just 10 years 'old', was the son of Jonas, born 07-07-1895 and Bertha nee Rueff, born 12-08-1894. Leo had two sisters:
> Schoontje (Sieny), born in 1924
> Julie (Jetty), born in 1922
They lived in Amsterdam above Jonas's retail business in shoes.

They’re an iconic part of the SA coast. Disappointed to find Pt Germain jetty closed in May. And the eye watering repair cost

Cool shit I got to see, growing up in Utah:
Abandoned mine behind our home
Dinosaur footprints in situ
Petroglyphs, while river rafting
Printer’s row where newspapers were made
Topaz Mountain before closed to public
Spiral Jetty covered in salt preserved bugs & birds
Tunnels under the SLC Temple
