It's a fractal of bad decisions. Serializing a datetime is only slightly less common than printing a string. There's no excuse for datetime not to implement some default JSONSerializable that returns an ISO8601 string _except_ datetime isn't timezone-aware

You can register mappings for specific types, as well as classes. If there isn't one present for the class, there are special use-cases for "Stringable" and "JsonSerializable".
It _will_ also handle "components" which are basically mapped classes that aren't quite entities. Think value objects.

laravelにはjsonSerializableって機能があってこのtraitをimplementしたクラス内でjsonSerialize()関数作ってそこで配列データ作ってやるとそのクラスをreturnするだけでjsonを返すことができるので非常に楽
