Was It Worth It? My Pitchfest Experience.
What happens when your pitch doesn’t win… but still kinda does? A tale of near-disaster, hidden wins, soggy cereal, and surprise hope. Here's what went down at Pitchfest 2025.

New substack is up!!!!

I've been so inactive on this platform. I promise I won't just use it to spam my newsletter!!! I've been working on colors for a comic and tinkering with some stories. Hoping to get back to posting art here soon.

You can also pitch early readers and YA, as well as MG at #KCUPitchFest. Didn't mean to give the wrong impression.

so proud of myself for finishing these on time!! here’s my pitch for #kcupitchfest — introducing Mothwing to Bluesky 🦋🤎
@kidscomicsunite.bsky.social

[ #graphicnovel #comicartist #fantasyart #artistsonbluesky #astrophysician ]
A painterly digital artwork of a young girl wearing a cloak inspired by moth wings, surrounded by vibrant blue energy. Text reads “Mothwing” and on another line, “S. J. Molaro” Two comic pages depicting a girl approaching a glowing pool. The face of a faerie arises out of it, asking what her business is. The girl comes out of hiding and explains that she wants to enter the Land of the Fae to seek the Silver Door, and the faerie asks what she could possible want with that power. A continuation of the previous comic pages. The girl explains that she’s been given a cloak by Death, who called it the “mothwing cloak.” The faerie explains that the toll for entry is her name, and the girl agrees, whispering her name to the faerie. The faerie then beckons the girl further into the water. The girl asks if the faerie will help her find the Silver Door, but the faerie responds that the girl is on her own. A swirling vortex opens in the glowing water, sucking the girl into its depths in a myriad of colors.
