I know I've got some #FOSS fans following me here, so I'll put this out there

The iCal vJournal format is *awesome* for journaling/task management w/ homelab cloud sync (Nextcloud)…

but there are only TWO desktop programs that support it, both Linux exclusive!

(GNOME Evolution & KDE KOrganizer)

Yeah, but we're not the only ones. Search for kontact, korganizer, kalarm, kate,...

If multiple ecosystems use the same naming scheme, it doesn't help anymore

The KDE Project released today KDE Gear 25.04.1 as the first maintenance update to the latest **KDE Gear 25.04** open-source software suite series to address various issues in your favorite KDE apps. KDE Gear 25.04.1 is here to fix the session restore functionality and the background of the new status bar when using non-Breeze styles in the Dolphin file manager, fix a crash in the KOrganizer calendar and scheduling application, and fix a crash during logout in the NeoChat Matrix client. The AudioTube YouTube client received support for finding audio tracks with an unknown codec, Cantor front-end to powerful mathematics and statistics packages received improved LaTeX typesetting support, and the Falkon web browser received a fix for a crash that occurred when creating the bookmarks toolbar. Furthermore, KDE Gear 25.04.1 adds support for Qt 6.10 to the Gwenview image viewer for system integrators who want to build it from sources, prevents searching for rental vehicle journeys and improves geocoding in the Itinerary travel assistant app, and improves copy to X11 selection in the Konsole terminal emulator. The KItinerary library, which is used by the Itinierary travel assistant app, received support for extracting a&o hostels pkpass files, support for extracting prices for generic UIC 918.3 tickets, support for finding more seat/berth information in ÖBB NightJet tickets, and an Gastronovi extractor. As usual, the Kdenlive video editor received numerous changes to improve existing functionality, such as audio thumbnail generation, deleting multiple bin clips, pasting text with multiple lines in the notes widget, moving a single clip from a group as a standalone clip, background removal, and extracting the last clips in the timeline. Apps like Elisa, Calligra, Angelfish, K3b, Kasts, Kate, KDevelop, Kleopatra, Koko, Kompare, Konqueror, KWalletManager, Marble, Merkuro, Okular, Skanpage, Tokodon, and Umbrello, as well as related libraries or other components, have also been updated in this release, so check out the _full changelog_ for more details. Meanwhile, keep an eye on the stable software repositories of your favorite GNU/Linux distribution for the KDE Gear 25.04.1 packages and update your installations as soon as possible for the best KDE apps experience, especially if you’re using the KDE Plasma desktop environment.

Spent the morning syncing the CalDAV from my Synology to Korganizer.
You'd think that now that I'm fully synced up I have no more scheduling excuses.
Just watch me.

Really love the KOrganizer!

#linux what do you guys use as a calendar and organizer? I checked out some "top X lists"...

Korganizer seems to check some common boxes, but I'm not really convinced it's "easy, convenient and fun to use" so that someone would "naturally" pick it to organize their work or day to day stuff.

Calendars in KOrganizer change colour

Is #thunderbird really the only standalone #linux desktop calendar app that can just subscribe to #caldav calendars? 🤨

#gnomecalendar needs a ton of dependencies and #gnome stuff running.
#korganizer the same for #kde.
#evolution apparently just hooks into GNOME online accounts.

There are some […]

General Discussion • Re: Linux has over 6% of the desktop market
Before I went over to Linux Mint in January of 2013, I was using Windows 7. I never could find a good "offline" calendar program/application for Windows 7. When I did move over to Linux Mint, I found an offline calendar named KOrganizer which does not rely on internet access. It is based on the linux desktop environment of KDE. Since I was using Linux Mint, I was surprised to see Korganizer was found in the Mint repository for all three desktop environments for Ubuntu based Mint and they are Cinnamon, Mate and Xfce. Again, I cannot say it will be found in Debian based LMDE's (Linux Mint Debian Edition) repository, but I am sure it will work in LMDE since KOrganizer is found in the Debian repositories of MX Linux And Debian which I now use. In Mint 22.1 and beyond, KOrganizer can be found and installed by using the Software Manager in Cinnamon, Mate and Xfce. In Mint's Software Manager, just type in the word, Synaptic in the Search field. Then click on the word, Install. In MX Linux and Debian, it can be found and installed by using the Synaptic Package Manager which is installed by default in their distros main Menu. I tried it out and I really liked it. It can be used for Daily, Weekly and Monthly. I use Monthly. I've mentioned it before on here, but I think I never posted a screenshot of it. Sometimes when Comcast, my ISP, is working on their service, I lose the internet service so an online calendar is "not" reachable which makes offline KOrganizer perfect for me. Below is a screenshot of KOrganizer showing the month of May 2026 in MX Linux . I've chosen the month of May since other months have some private information in it which is for "my eyes only". BTW, if one wants to use KOganizer in some other Ubuntu or Debian based linux distros, it will come with lots of other KDE dependencies which the calendar needs to function. I do not mind that since I really like this offline calendar. A compromise on my part. BTW, the screen resolution for this attachment is going to be large since it will be 1920x1080. * * *

Deleting a calendar in KOrganizer caused my whole computer to lock up. No keyboard or mouse input possible. It has been doing this for over 2 minutes now.
