Conveyor bridges still spanning the concrete and corrugated metal at Kandos Cement Works. The town grew up around the plant: in 1920 Kandos became the first place in Australia with concrete electricity poles.

This was a fun day. Multi-day ride. We were out near #kandos in #newsouthwales and got hit by torrential rain. We turned around to dry off in a cafe. Once we had, I jumped off the bike to take this photo. Dalma was none too impressed. (She forgave me once she had coffee.)

This is my favourite rain photo. Dalma and I on a multiday to Bathurst. Yes, I really pulled the phone out to take a photo during this before driving back to Kandos. 🤣

I love absolutely everything about the idea of the Parkes Elvis Festival - except that it's Elvis. Ew. How about Kate Bush in Mudgee or Talking Heads in Kandos?

Yeah, I've spent a little time in Orange, Bathurst, Kandos, Narrandera, Nowra, Ulladulla, Port Macquarie, Newcastle... it's more a matter... of being a certain age 🫤

A decent collection, way ahead of me!

As the youngest in my family, I missed the roaming in the 1950s ... which did include Kandos, as well as Rylestone, Portland, Isa, and other places.

So great to see my mates at Kandos and Cementa highlighted with some truly stunning photography of the Capertee Valley on Back Roads on ABC. It takes guts to turn up in a town that is cute as hell (if a bit clapped out) and make a community, let alone one based on arts practice.

—it's better than local; like bro are you stuck in the fucking Kandos era or what??? Beryl's is amazing, local AND local halal-certified if you care about that sort of thing, and that's a mass market brand, I haven't even started on the quality of local artisan brands.

On the way home I saw smoke rising above the Blue Mountains as I travelled thru the Bylong Valley. By the time I got to Kandos I saw 2 helicopters with buckets emptying water (?) on top of the ridge above the old plant/factory.

Kandos Museum out west of the the Blue Mountains is well worth a visit. A fascinating glimpse into rural industrial heritage and home to Kandos Cement. Many post war migrants made their home here and worked in the quarry, mine or cement works.
