Produced by Luca Guadagnino, Giovanni Tortorici’s 'Ketticè' confirms his singular feel for teenage aimlessness embodied in fully drawn characters.

Coming-of-age movies in recent years are usually snoozy; Giovanni Tortorici’s whipsmart funny Ketticè is the wonderful exceptional to that rule.

Luca Guadagnino didn’t come to Switzerland to share updates on the drama surrounding his OpenAI movie, Artificial, during a meeting with reporters at the 79th edition of the Locarno Film Festival. No, he was in town to sing the praises of a protégé.

Do you think Monica Bellucci has done it all? Think again. “I’ve never done anything like that,” she tells Variety about her role in “Ketticè.” Directed by Giovanni Tortorici, the film premiered at Locarno.  “I was on set in my pajamas with a knife in my hand and slippers on my feet.
