Saw Wild Horse Nine for a second time tonight, as it was the Mystery Screening - I suspected it was, but went on the off chance it was something else. And, hey, means it's fresh for writing a review. The public audience were much more muted than the LFF crowd's laughter, brought out the melancholy.
Wild Horse Nine: Sam Rockwell takes his dying hitman partner John Malkovich to Easter Island in Martin McDonaugh's dark comedy. A rumination of death from those that take lives for a living, and while reminiscent of McDonaugh's In Bruges, it feels more contemplative, between the witty dialogue. #LFF

Although I suspect the main reason he's particularly angry at critics is because the premiere at LFF was so poorly reviewed that Sony massively slashed their release strategy at the last minute. I wanted to see it, but it only played for about a week in my area because it did so poorly.

Happy #LetterboxdFriday!

This week I went from a beautiful stop motion adventure full of eye bag representation, to f*** military propaganda ESPECIALLY if they gay it up, to the wild camera movements that inspired Hitchcock, to rewatching ‘La bola negra’ on 35mm.

My #LastFourWatched for #LetterboxdFriday. Part one! The tail end of my full Jane Schoenbrun and two LFF features that I didn't attempt tickets for precisely because they were soon to be released.

Remember seeing this at the LFF some years ago, it’s an intriguing premise but doesn’t quite deliver in the end.

Haha! At 82 mins it’s literally half as long as some of the other films I saw at the #LFF (POSSIBLE LOVE, I’m particularly looking at you!)

Yeah, that was definitely a problem for me during the #LFF, although I decided to hold off on MINOTAUR and FJORD until they go on general release.

Valeska Grisebach’s THE DREAMED ADVENTURE suffered slightly vs the high expectations set by her previous film WESTERN. However, DA is the film >

Being able to attend the Sofia Coppola talk this October for the BFI LFF was really something. I still can't believe I was able to get the ticket and learn so much from the conversation. It was a very lucky day!

It’s interesting how these things play out. Some of my ‘most anticipated’ films at the #LFF were slightly disappointing (possibly because my expectations were too high), while one or two ‘randoms’ turned up trumps!

Spoilt because of #LFF but Resident Evil, Artificial, Wild Horse Nine, Club Kid, Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother and Everest: The Other side were all pretty special.
