When I wrote this, I was thinking of a Pakistani academic who spent time with the khwaja sira and then reported in his thesis that they were all "liars and deceivers". Or the Thai gay activist calling transition conversion therapy.
But we also don't remark enough on how Blanchard is a gay man.

Someday, we will talk about how cis gay men have been granted epistemic authority over trans women, and how they have largely used that to further a kind of ideological ownership over our lives and narratives that thoroughly discounts and disregards our womanhood, promulgating transmisogyny.

In the Pakistani context, "hijra" is indeed considered more pejorative and they use "khwaja sira" for the community, which isn't really used in India.
