But there was something different about the 1830s, when it occurred not in dribs and drabs, through deceptive treaties or extralegal violence, but as a matter of federal policy.

The #Mexican Kickapoo people hail originally from Michigan but migrated to the State of #Coahuila (North #Mexico) in 1850. They speak the only #Algonquian #language in Mexico and are related to the #Kickapoo tribes in Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas.

The #BlackHawkWar, a failed attempt to reclaim land seized from #Indigenous Americans, ended on #ThisDayInHistory in 1832 with #BlackHawk's surrender. He had led a force of #Sauks, #Meskwakis, & #Kickapoos through five months of war, losing ~250 warriors and killing 60 US troops.

Btw there were at least 20 separate forced migrations similar to the fairly well known Trail of Tears in the mainland United States; no doubt there were many more that are as of now unknown, but the intention remains the same as it is a weapon of imperial powers to deal with indigenous groups.
