그럴 때 마다, "한국어에는... 1년간 먹을 김치를 담그는 collective labor를 뜻하는 동사가 따로 있어...그것을 kimjang이라고 부른다... 집안 모든 다라이와 욕조에까지 배추가 가득차 있고... 그 배추를 모두 김치로 만들어야 해. 그건 gendered labor기도 하고 여자들만 한다"

In the first session, participants made kimchi in a group (see the left-hand panel figure). During the second session, kimchi was prepared individually (the right-hand panel), and skin microbiota samples were taken from the hands before the start. Kimchi fermentations were followed up in the lab by observing gas production and measuring pH after 3days. Twinkling Night
I visited the countryside for kimjang and was struck by the clear air and freely twinkling stars, so unlike the city.
It made me realize I’ve been living with a blurred filter over my life—maybe it’s time for a clear, unfiltered sky.

Was ultimately 12 hours delayed in getting home yesterday, but took the train down to Yeongcheon early this morning. Started preparing the cabbages for Kimjang tomorrow. Also collected radishes from the field and hung siraegi to dry.

Went to the Korean grocery store with Big Scallions (대파? not sure how that translates), kochu, scallions, Mu, 2 heads of napa, kochukaru and ginger and the lady behind me asked me, "Ah, are you making Kimchi?"
I answered, "Yes, Kimjang." 🍽️
The woman at the counter commented that my Mu looked pretty.

This year has been APPALLING for growing chili 🌱s without a greenhouse in Denmark, but though this is only my first harvest of gochu (i.e. real Korean pepper strains), I've some hope of getting at least an equal second harvest before we hold a kimjang (communal kimchi making) in a couple of weeks.
