Went back into the forge yesterday and hand forged a kiridashi. Think of it as a utility knife. It took about 5 hours to make, including grinding, polishing, normalization, and tempering.

Old skill practiced. New skill unlocked (yes, power carving is exactly as fun as it looks … except for the sore back from bending over).
A curved kiridashi knife (in gold 3d printed sheath), a round green mallet, and a bow tie shaped piece of dark padauk (with other mess in the background) all sitting on top of a large slab of padauk where you can see the start of a chiselled out place for the bow tie to be inserted. Black smudges in this area are from epoxy used to fill the crack I don't want to spread. Yellow angle grinder with a carving attachment sitting on a live edge slab of padauk (red heartwood, yellowish sapwood with a lot of spalting). If you look closely, you can see where a bit of power carving has been started.

After about a year with this account, I suppose it's time for post #1.

I like to make things. Painting, drawing, blacksmithing, woodworking, noisemaking, etc.

So it's unambiguously clear, I'm entirely for people loving who they love. Fuck any who weaponize their intolerance towards the contrary.

Je vais publier petit à petit les articles que j'ai réalisés pour le marché. On commence tranquille avec une mise à jour de 2 articles existants.
J'ai ajouté un étui pour le scalpel.
Quant au kiridashi, il a aussi droit à un étui en cuir, et j'ai changé la couleur du manche.

Cartable en cuir marron et richement décoré par des volutes blanches brodées et une couronne de lauriers en cuir repoussé. Une sangle de portage réglable et aussi visible au premier plan. Grand couteau de bushcraft à dos droit. Il a une émouture scandinave et un manche en micarta légèrement vert maintenu par 2 rivets en laiton. Kiridashi et son étui en cuir. Le kiridashi est entouré d'un cordon marron qui est enduit de cire d'abeille. Un lacet est enfilé dans un trou à l'arrière du manche et sert de dragonne. L'étui en cuir est noir et reprend la forme du kiridashi. Il dispose d'un passant pour ceinture. Couverture en cuir d'un carnet à spirales. Elle est de couleur brune, décorée d'une rose des vents. Sur le haut un texte dit "Chaque voyage est une aventure". Un tracé en pointillé part du A de "aventure" et descend en zigzaguant et contournant la rose des vents jusqu'au bas droit de la couverture où il se termine par un "X" comme sur une carte au trésor.

Aujourd'hui à la #forge, j'ai fini un ti coupe-coupe pointu ! Comme souvent c'est parti d'un morceau de ressort de suspension.

J'ai voulu pousse le vice et lui faire un dos poli mirroir, mais sans buffing wheel, c'est tendu.
Un petit couteau en pointe symétrique, intégralement en acier. Le manche est torsadé et légèrement riveté au bout. A ce stade, la lame sortait du traitement thermique et a donc des reflets qui vont du bleu vers le début de la lame au orange sur les tranchants. Même couteau pris en main après polissage du dos et affûtage. On voit d'ailleurs que mes doigts sont devenus tout gris noir de micro poussières d'acier. Cette fois y a deux petits reflets tout brillants sur le tranchant parce que j'ai fait deux petites facettes et gardé les couleurs du revenu derrière. Le dos avant polissage, tout plat, avec les couleurs du revenu. Et oui du coup c'est une lame triangulaire, j'ai pas encore fait les outils pour faire une section en losange. Au final on est proches de forme de kunaï (couteau de lancer japonais) ou de kiridashi (petit couteau / ciseau à bois japonais, on est sur qqch d'à peine plus gros qu'un stylo quoi). Le même couteau de dos après polissage. C'est tout blanc et c'est pas parfait mais ça reste joli.

I dont have leather-working tools, but I do have dental tools, clay tools, woodcarving tools, stone-carving tools, sewing tools, nylon twine from broom-making, gold leather from the furniture factory bins, and paper scissors. Now my un-heat-treated kiridashi has a temporary home.

Oops ! I did it again.
Couteau Kiridashi, le manche est ovale, le fourreau est plat et épouse la forme de la lame, les deux sont en cerisier. Il est posé sur une ardoise noire. Le même couteau, le fourreau est enlevé laissant apparaitre une lame noire sauf au niveau du biseau qui est chromé. La partie tranchante fait 4,8cm. Gros plan sur la lame, seul un côté est affuté - à droite sur celui-ci donc pour droitier -.
