My dad turns 80 this week. Many memories were shared of our family ice cream (frozen custard) recipe that claims to go back over 100 years. But it changes every generation or so as people try to fix it because it usually turns out like frozen vanilla soup.

🤬 So Medtronic acquired InPen awhile back and they're now discontinuing the actually-useful app (syncs to Apple Health, clearly shows IOB and daily logs, shows Dexcom data) and replacing it with their POS MiniMed Go app that does none of that while upselling you on their own CGM.

i've seen a lot of hot takes on this but not a lot of acknowledgment that, from a historical perspective, this is unquestionably a true statement
The "easy" parts are all done. Now comes the fun part: carving away wood until the lyre appears!
Honestly, this is really fiddly and a lot of work, but I get to use some of my favorite kinds of tools and it's both relaxing/therapeutic and pretty decent exercise.

This is a good example of how you need quite a lot of detail of how these systems *actually* work to understand what the risks are, and how over-indexing on sci-fi can lead you a bit astray on what the future looks like

I remember a handful of us white people going to basically stand guard at the local Islamic Center / mosque because it received so many threats. Sadly, the threats never ended and the community had to close it down a few years ago and move after repeated arson attacks.
