* idiobionts: paralyse their host then lay an egg on (usually) the surface.

* koinobionts: (usually) lay an egg inside their host, the host moves about normally while being eaten alive.

Two interesting things in this paper:

Idiobionts* were caught more in the dry season, koinobionts not, which is what I'm starting to see in the Ugandan data too.

40 trap years of collecting gave only 10,000 wasps, wonder why so much less than in Uganda? 🤔

Chelonus spp.
Like most of the #Braconidae, massively under recorded.
Egg-larval koinobionts, mainly of hosts with concealed larvae; in Britain they are associated almost entirely with microlepidoptera.

I feel for the hosts of the koinobionts.

My polistes fuscatus infestation might be pedestrian in comparison, but I still feel like walking dead every time they emerge from my rafters to remind me that I can't do anything about their squatting.

We're both trapped in my house.

Parasitoid communities: their size, structure and development
In this chapter we have followed Haeselbarth (1979) in suggesting that a basic life history division of parasitoids into idiobionts and koinobionts provides a workable categorization that correlates well with the potential for broad or narr...
