#Parasitoids
I'm just laughing pathetically in "Russian dwarf hamster", genus Nicotiana, Rubus fruticosus agg. & all the parasitoids. "Stuff that's convenient for measurement purposes to treat as related, and reproduces reasonably well within the group and rather less well outside it most of the time probably."?

parasitoids are defined as parasites that kill the host inevitably as a matter of the life cycle, like parasitoid wasps

𝘐𝘥𝘪𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘢 is a small genus of flies recorded in Hong Kong in the family Calliphoridae, the blow flies, and subfamily Rhiniinae, the nose flies, describing the protruding lower facial region that resembles a snout. Their larvae are suspected to be parasitoids or associates of other insects.

Parasitoid wasp cowboys…er, ant boys. Cool discovery #ants #wasps #parasitoids
This is a very cool parasitic relationship.

Tiny parasitoid wasps mount up and ride around on ants. They also groom ants that are farming aphids and the ants transfer sweet liquid food straight into the mouth of the wasp.

🧪
A tiny parasitoid #wasp that lives among ants and root aphids has been found in South Korea for the first time. Two Paralipsis species are described, one new to #science - Paralipsis triangulata.

Thanks for sharing! Here's a shot of mine of Philotrypesis; I think they are parasitoids on fig wasps.

»Engagement-optimized products are female figs« ← that should be "male", no?

I was rooting for these guys, but neither made it. The weather was against them, and so were the parasites. 🌱

Pedantically, the Russian army are parasitoids. The difference is that a parasite (such as a corrupt politician) doesn't kill its host.

"treasure bugs are parasitoids of mimics during the larval stage, their adult form crawls into the mimic's shell and lays eggs there, relying on a future adventurer to open the now-mimic-less chest and disperse the imago" author is _cooking_ with this

Parasitoids of the larvae of other insects, often gall-formers or grass-mining species, drilling through the plant to lay their eggs on or near the target.

For those species where anything is known, larvae may feed on plants or other invetebrates as parasitoids. Many target galls - sometimes the gall creator, sometimes the gall itself.

Excited to share our new review on pirate parasitism!
We explore how parasitoid wasps can expand their host ranges to otherwise unsuitable invasive pests by exploiting the effects of other parasitoids attacking the same host. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Thank you! When I started drawing the first iterations of the amalgamate and parasitoids about 10 years ago, I never thought people would like any of it. I hope you enjoy the book when it gets there :)

In this case the sawfly egg or larva is eaten, evicted, or just killed, but the sawfly larvae and pupa also have to contend with the Eulophid parasitoids Pnigalio nemati, P. dolichurus and Pnigalio soemius, and the ichneumonid Diaparsis stramineipes.

"Aggressive mimicry is a form of mimicry in which predators, parasites, or parasitoids share similar signals, using a harmless model, allowing them to avoid being correctly identified by their prey or host." (From Wikipedia)
