Chad has broken off its military cooperation agreements with France, asking for the withdrawal of French military personnel from the country. Paris had relied on Chad for its Sahara-Sahel strategy since, well, colonial times. This is a sea change.

At the end of the day, I am not sure this is a big setback. But maybe that's bc I've never understood the importance that France has always attached to Chad.
