Let's step back into the past a few steps. Before they let ANYONE near their kids, Kytana, who is a powerful psychic, gives Nimona an interview. It nearly goes disastrously wrong, but Ky knows a hurt kid when she sees one no matter how ancient they are.

mar-Tykoni, Grand Matriarch of the Explorer Pod, in her greatest moment of doubt and pain: The Mover Disaster.

The Great Mover is the core of the Explorer project, an interstellar teleporter gifted to the Halavahdon by the Benefactors. However, it had a fatal flaw in it: Nonredundancy. Her little sister was returning from a successful Explorer mission when the Mover blew its main memory core. The result was blind horror: A random half of her matter came back. Inside out. And alive to feel it.

The screams were heard over a mile away. They didn't last long... fortunately.

After taking control of the bedlam that followed, Tykoni retired to her private quarters, accessed via an underwater cave. She sits on a crystal bench, in tears, talking to Kytana the Leviaphin, the giant psychic orcas that act as mentors and support the Explorer Project.

Tykoni: "What... what do I do now? How can some new Matriarch save what we've built? I... I couldn't even save my own sister..."
Kytana: "By looking to your pod. We're here too. You don't have to do it alone. We are all gravely wounded by this, but we're prepared to do whatever it takes to get your people home. And we hope you are, too."

There are also song lyrics from Pat Benetar's "Invincible" above it, as foreshadowing of the speech Tykoni gives to the Explorer Pod later. Then she sets to work to get the Mover repaired, to bring the rest of her people in the field home alive...

They are at heart giant orcas. And they also have mentors: Giant orcas called Leviaphin, with extremely powerful psychic abilities. They actually come from Star Trek: They created the whale probe 100,000 years ago. They act as support for the Explorer Project and as mentors.

Below Lothann is Sylia swimming point behind her heartbonded Doohan Lackey Otter, in the center. At the bottom is Matriarch Kytana of the Crystal Forger Pod. They are all different, but they swim together: Into what they hope is a brighter future for their peoples.

Sylia the Halavahdon (giant orcaotter) introducing the equally huge Kytana, a titanic orca with psychic abilities in place of manipulative limbs.
