#LADOT
During Covid, LADOT instituted Auto Walk Signals. However, they never instituted them at intersections that needed them like Expo/Western & Expo/Vermont. In Feb, I went to an LADOT open house in South LA to talk to them. They said, never mind. We’re rolling the whole program back. #OneStepForward….

Examples of streets where LADOT added bikeways on streets where the city PCI showed were failing pavement: sharrows added to Century Blvd in 2024, added bike lane on San Vicente in 2025.

I would just add to your 3rd recommendation (which I support): repeal no-new-bikeways-except-where-pavement-is-good. LADOT already breaks this law - or I should say selectively enforces this law mainly to shoot down bike safety projects

May I add: LADOT is planning a full time bus lane on S Broadway from MLK-Manchester, implementation starting in 2027. Basically an extension of metro’s plans for the bus lane on Broadway in DTLA. Fact sheet here: ladotlivablestreets-cms.org/uploads/535c...

Metro puts their share of the funds immediately into building out countywide BRT program lanes - don't even worry about the shelters yet, just paint lanes. Broadway, then Venice, then La Cienega, then Sunset, then Atlantic. Meanwhile, LADOT puts its money into the HLA corridors, starting with the

75% of this money goes back to LA Metro, 25% to LADOT - equating about ~ 1 million/mile for metro and ~350k/mile for LADOT. Imagine how much money the bus lanes from a full HLA buildout and Metro's countywide BRT program could bring in. (Nathan Fielder voice) Here's the plan:

LA's own pages are a parking cheat sheet: per-space demand pricing (avg $1.76/hr), legal pre-pay before enforcement, 12 holidays without meters or sweeping, a 72-hour limit per spot, and a warning that ticket TEXTS are scams — LADOT bills by mail. parksy.com

I see what you mean, I get you. Yeah LADOT needs to get its act together on these traffic lights lol

Really the hold-up is LADOT—signal priority (maybe even closing off some of those minor streets that cross the line) would do wonders

We have tools to build a safer city for everyone. At today’s transportation committee meeting we’ll get an update on speed camera deployment, which can’t come soon enough.

Also on the agenda: look at this data for LA’s bus lane enforcement: $21 million (!) in revenue since launch

TLDR: no they won’t and Bass will continue, as with Villaraigosa and Garcetti, to express platitudes and do the odd press conference while doing f&$k all and the LADOT slow walk and ignore upgrades

In less than 700 days, the Olympic & Paralympic games start. Will Los Angeles be ready?

That’s what I asked LA Metro, LADOT, & local transit agencies at a panel I led. Their answer? Yes, but only if the federal government steps up to the plate & delivers on their promises.

L.A.-area lawmakers urge Trump to fund transit fixes for 2028 Summer Olympics
Officials called on the federal government to expedite $2 billion needed to make L.A. traffic-ready for the 2028 Games.

I assert that the project should have included about 1000 feet of a 2-way protected bikeway connecting the state park to the Metro Station - as the city plan states. But the LADOT design expects cyclists riding that 1000 ft to cross Spring Street twice.
