The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) has approved an ambitious $800 million initiative to upgrade its largest gas-fired power plant, the Scattergood Generating Station, in an effort to significantly reduce carbon emissions and adopt hydrogen as a primary fuel source. The project involves retrofitting units 1 and 2 with advanced turbines that can run on a blend of natural gas and hydrogen, with an initial goal of achieving at least 30% hydrogen content and future plans for even higher levels.
