Today's high refresh rate monitors are far better than the smeary, washed out LCDs of the 2000s—but even the best of the best are still chasing the clarity of CRTs.
2026's OLED monitors can nearly recreate the sublime clarity of a '90s CRT, but Windows will have to change before we can achieve true nirvana
All you need is a ridiculously fast monitor and endless patience for tinkering to get a glimpse of how good retro games looked in motion back in the '90s.

2026 OLED Monitors Near CRT Clarity, but Windows Needs a Revamp
Why OLED Monitors Matter for Retro Gaming Retro enthusiasts have long praised the fluid motion and deep blacks of 1990s cathode‑ray tube (CRT) televisions. Those displays rendered fast‑moving sprites without the blur that plagues many modern LCDs.

I've been deep diving into the #HT1621 #LCD controller and I've managed to pry loose some of its secrets and finally get this dev board working. I'm going to start working directly with the IC and some random LCDs I got from AliExpress soon =P

Getting numbers on the HT1621 LCD controller
We’ve gone through some work getting the HT1621 up and running, but in the end, we’ve deciphered its secrets and we’re ready to put it to use.

I begs to differ with MRTC. While Prasarana and RAC fails to maintain their LCDs, MRTC maintainance is ok, they are even preemtively replacing all Kajang Line LCDs althought they are still perfectly functional. We will see how MRL performs.

One thing I really liked as a kid was to look at LCDs at an angle, to see the hidden segments and wonder what other features were hidden in there.
Of course, there was usually a manual, but there was a nice sense of mystery in there.

ngl I miss my OG Vive.
I know the LCDs on the Frame aren't going to compare to OLED but I hope it's better than the fucking Index's screens.

Stop #4; back in Coney Island for surprisingly the first time this year. Checking out Luna Park. Their arcade hasn't changed much since my previous visit, except no more Pump It Up. The retro games would be great if they weren't in direct sunlight and LCDs. #arcade

This is one of the few games I own on Quest store that looks SIGNIFICANTLY better on Quest Pro vs Quest 3, due to local dimming. While LD=far from perfect, in some scenes I can barely see anything on Q3 due to v low contrast LCDs.

This game should get a good visual uplift from uOLEDs in VR Glasses.
Dungeons of Eternity's free Tomb Extraction update adds an entertaining new dungeon type, a welcome change of pace as the VR roguelite enters its fourth year.

Sounds like an interesting series! I haven't listened but I'm wondering if that race to the bottom was related to or led to the later price-fixing shenanigans we saw with various components and parts (e.g. DRAM, CRTs, LCDs, etc).
