Some of the best details on men and units involved with D-Day can be found in a series of original color photos taken by US Army photographers as the assault force embarked from England. Here we see troops of the 1st Engineer Special Brigade board an LCVP at Weymouth.

It's up to us to make sure this was not for nothing.

Baker Manufacturing Company 'Highlander' LCVP(H) experimental hydrofoil landing craft with surface-piercing Vee foils on the Potomak river. 1962.

Not to be confused with the Miami Shipbuilding Corporation 'Halobates' LCVP(H)

Just finished assembling my 2nd LCT to go with the one I made almost 20 years ago. Now I also have another LCM and LCVP to make.

I can think of no braver, heroic, people than those who fought to save the world from #Facism 80 years ago. How could we let them down so?😔

82 years ago, on the 6th of June 1944, 160.000 Allied troops crossed the English channel in Operation Neptune, now commonly referred to as D-Day. Op to 9.000 people lost their lives (both Allied and Axis troops) with thousands more missing or heavily injured. #otd #history 🗃️

Finished the Airfix 1/72 LCVP/Higgins Boat. Mostly out of the box, apart from larger diameter life rings, which were 3D-printed, the bumpers/fenders which use sailing ship rigging cord, and the deck fittings, which are polystyrene strips.

I could not have made it without Don Wherry. We were a team. I was the Channel Alpha talker,he was my plotter. We controlled the landing boats, LCVP, together for 3 years, and we never lost a boat, or a marine.

My dad was a decorated WWII combat veteran. Destroyers in the Atlantic then an LCVP landing craft coxswain in the Pacific. He would be terribly disappointed if I were anything other than Antifa.

10/x The LCVP or Higgins Boat was born. A steel drop-down ramp at the front allowed troops (up to 36 men) or small vehicles (like a jeep + 12 troops) to exit quickly and directly onto the beach, rather than climbing over the sides into deep water.

14/x It was 6:28 a.m. on June 6, 1944, and the first LCVPs had just come ashore on Utah Beach at Normandy. D-Day and the Allied liberation of Europe had commenced. Over 23,000 units of the LCVP were built.

9/x Higgins modified his craft to include this feature. He filed for a patent on December 8, 1941, the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor. First, they came up with the Landing Craft, Personnel (Ramped), but it quickly evolved into the LCVP (landing craft, vehicle, personnel).

One of my friends asked me if you could fit the LCVP on a CD. No, it's a bit too big. We did a group build a number of years ago which had to fit on a CD.

A boat distracted us and we turned towards it, the same LCVP we had sent to shore earlier. It was still packed. Since it was the 1st boat returning, it should have been empty. The same 1st class petty officer stood before, holding a newspaper for us to see the bold headlines.

Also water lining an LCVP and an LCM. Horrible job and got plastic bits all over a fresh pair of track pants. Hovered up the mess three times.

The liberty boat was an LCVP, Higgins boat, jammed full of sailors. The last man aboard was a 1st class (E6) machinist mate and he saluted me and the Ensign (US flag astern) as he laughed and started down the ladder. Minutes later, the radio messenger, a friend of mine, stood before me.
