Teal recovery just in from @btobirds.bsky.social – an adult female ringed at Bank Island on the 15th January 2026 was recovered recently on the 24th October – 745 km east of the #LDV at Constantinsborg, Århus, Denmark @yorkbirding.bsky.social

This week (and before the #LDV becomes too wet) we have been hard at work managing the height of the hedgerows and willows that have encroached onto the species-rich meadows at Melbourne and Thornton Ings – huge thanks as always to our incredible team for their efforts 👏👏

We've also enjoyed hosting several student placements recently with Quill, Lucas, Freddie and Gabriel all joining the team. Great to see so much interest from the younger generation, with their time spent in the #LDV hopefully helping them towards achieving a career in conservation.

Dude getting very worked up that I referred to his MG ute as an LDV ute. They’re exactly the same fucking car, just with different badges on them. This is a hoot and I shall do it more often.

Thank you to the staff at St Nicks for allowing our #LDV volunteers to attend a small mammal training event on their reserve last week – providing the team with a few close encounters whilst giving them the opportunity to learn about the local mice and vole populations.

Our usual view of a small mammal is often through a thermal camera whilst monitoring the fields surrounding the #LDV after dark, and after a few recent evenings out surveying we're pleased to say there’s plenty of Wood Mice around this year (with smaller numbers of voles recorded).
