LSCO really is crazy in terms of scale!!!
To put Avdiivka into context: The entire USMC ground element was concentrated on a 25 KM front. The city falls after four months of fighting, where this force loses more KIA than the entire US military in the GWOT. The French army was then introduced out of reserves to exploit the fall.

100% correct. Mattis tried to reorient the force towards preparation for large scale combat operations via lethality and readiness under Trump 1. But Trump has never and will never have any interest in a LSCO war, and the reactionaries he hired adopted the superficial aesthetics of lethality
a little known aspect of all this is "lethality" was introduced as a semi-buzz phrase in a very specific limited context by Mattis of all people, in conjunction with "readiness" in terms of "the military needs to get ready again for wars where a lot of people including a lot of Americans die"
Not taking anything away from the author here, just adding that "lethality" becoming the military's north star was an inevitable outcome of fundamentally misunderstanding what the military does. We wouldn't have won in Iraq or Afghanistan by being more lethal. We never even defined what winning was!

This is an okay idea for sitting in garrison. This is a terrible idea for downrange. To be honest, centralized cooking at planned meal times is another GWOT bad habit like "fortification solely by T-walls" that we need to break for LSCO.

If I've said it once I've said it 1000 times: there are lots of people on here who have been in gnarly gunfights with an enemy that was maneuvering to close with and destroy them. My personal experience wasn't anything special but I have a CIB and learned enough to know LSCO is gonna fucking suck

imo the role of like massed elite light infantry in LSCO (the smaller DA and recce stuff is different) is to take some kind of key objective or point that must be secured and probably get murdered in the process, but that's a very niche role at a high cost both in prep and the act of using
