to the extent that there's any "research" being done by the stochastic parrotheads, it's a classic "degenerate research program" as Lakatos would have put it

Blind commitment to a theory is not an intellectual virtue: it is an intellectual crime.

Lakatos on Popper isn't half bad
“Popper seems to cultivate rhetoric deliberately, partly to cover up the weaknesses of his argument and partly, I suppose, for moral reasons, to give the impression that he has an argument when he has none. This is characteristic of his whole life’s work. Most of his famous theses are slogans

The demarcation between science and pseudoscience is not a pseudo-problem of armchair philosophers: it has grave ethical and political implications.

Zitron's an interesting case of a theory adding more and more epicycles. I don't think anything in AI itself prepared me for reading his articles more than reading Lakatos in college.

My "I didn’t kill Imre Lakatos" T-shirt has people asking a lot of questions already answered by my shirt.
Just came across this remarkable interview with Marjorie Grene at age 94: www.thebeliever.net/an-interview...

Two of my favourite bits, when Grene is asked about Rorty and about Lakatos: Rorty is just witty, but doesn't have a philosophy and Grene is quick to say that she did not kill Lakatos!
