You know what would be a good question for a Vancouver plebiscite?

Do you want to drive out domestic #VanRE speculators like Poilievre, #OffshoreGregor, foreign buyers & foreign capital from Vancouver RE market by legislation & only have homes for locals living in them?

B/c left-wing, centrist or right wing govts ALL prioritize & allow:

Foreign buyers

Foreign capital

Domestic real estate speculators profits, like Poilievre, Trudeau, housing minister #OffshoreGregor

VS locals living here

Need Singapore Stamp Tax. 65% for companies etc

Anyone spouting "more supply! legalize housing" is just a stooge of the real estate industry and young "progressives" in particular need to understand this

‘This is not about stopping housing’: Why locals object to Dunsink town proposal

One of Dublin’s largest landbanks is set for a new town bigger than Bray. Its neighbours are concerned

Oh great. Welcome to Concreteshire again. Another love-in with developers instead of forcing them to build out their existing landbanks with houses that people can actually afford. Perhaps have a look at the 750k empty homes first, and get them back into use?

How many locals living in Vancouver and Burnaby can afford a $1 million home? Criminalize #LandBanks

"In Metro Van, roughly a third of unsold units are priced above $1 million and, in Vancouver & Burnaby specifically, that figure climbs to about 80%"

We don't have a housing crisis because we have a planning problem - whether you blame that on Newts or not. It's because we have a building problem - an effective cartel of big builders, sat on massive (12 yr) landbanks, which they release into the market at the speed which ensures high house prices

The government needs to build council houses not rely on big housing speculators sitting on landbanks to maximise profits.

Pushing on a piece of string won't deliver.

Wealth flows into Singapore as Chinese invest in property
“Chinese developers who have had experience in Singapore are now familiar with the rules, regulations and market behaviour, and are expected to continue bidding to replenish their landbanks," said Savills Singapore's Alan Chong.

Goodness I didn't realize it was so simple. So just cancel all difficult regulations, train 100,000 building workers, ignore Green & other NIMBY councils & buy all the landbanks from housebuilders? I agree, we could have had 1 million council houses already. Any other overlooked policies/solutions?

I know some progressive rural by the highway signposts but they are outnumbered by the folks who havent sold their landbanks yet and bitter. Anyway things are going to get so bad (France had bread we have red meat) that there is going to be a pairing down of demands and broad coalition will form

Great. Please call them #LandBanks for domestic real estate speculators or foreign capital vs homes for locals.

Want a big difference in affordability in NYC?

Do a #SingaporeStampTax

0% tax for citizen for 1st home, 20% 2nd, 30% 3rd

60% for foreigners

65% for businesses

Yes if you really wanna solve the housing problem, you do with Singapore does make it extremely expensive for domestic real estate, speculators foreign buyers and foreign capital to buy up homes to use as #LandBanks instead of home locals can live in
Price locals out of the market or into poverty
April 15, 2026 at 6:46 AM
yes, please spread the word widely

Homes for locals living in the city.

Or homes for domestic real estate speculators and foreign capital #Landbanks

One of the reasons we live in Vancouver we like to look at the mountains

More forests of skyscrapers blocked our views

Will cause more land lift.

Higher rents for renters and retailers, higher costs to buy homes.

Will get more gargantuan #Landbanks and price us out of our city

Vancouverites should ask is the city of Vancouver for the people who live and work in it?

Or is it for the #vanre billionaires and multimillionaire developers and the politicians they own, & domestic real estate speculators like Gregor Robertson, Poilievre, Trudeau & Carney?

Watch all the new house prices take a hike.
Throwing money at the problem will fix nothing. Make housebuilders open up their landbanks and that will have more of a positive effect for buyers
March 14, 2026 at 2:14 PM
Maybe get the developers to build out their landbanks then, instead of letting them get more and more permissions to concrete over green fields.

The racists keep blaming immigrants for housing shortages while at least one local business landbanks over 30,000 vacant properties.

#AusPol
February 3, 2026 at 6:45 AM
"also, no pressure whatsoever will be brought to bear on owners of vacant or derelict properties, or of undeveloped landbanks with planning permission. This hands-off strategy will also hopefully help to increase supply but of course, you guessed it, not just yet"
