LA City Bureau of Street Services stopped doing actual full street resurfacing, shifting to only “large asphalt repair”. The city is trying to avoid adding wheelchair access required during resurfacing. It’s ridiculous, counterproductive, and expensive!

You thought #largeasphaltrepair was bad? Now L.A. city has inexplicably shifted to repaving streets already in good condition in rich neighborhoods... because where there are no sidewalks, there's no requirement for wheelchair ramps. #youcantmakethisshitup
Apparently to avoid ADA & #MeasureHLA, L.A. City is now only repaving streets without sidewalks. This means the city is repaving streets in well-off neighborhoods, even many blocks where the pavement is already in good shape & doesn't need to be repaved. la.streetsblog.org/2026/06/04/l...

Hold the presses! I got a tip, and it appears that L.A. City Bureau of Street Services ( #StreetsLA ) repaved a street this fiscal year! It's not just #largeasphaltrepair any more. Today's StreetsLA dashboard shows 1 mile of "resurfacing"

New Board of Public Works 6/26/26 meeting StreetsLA presentation posted shows that L.A. has largely ended its wasteful #largeasphaltrepair binge. Compare April to June, total LAR projects listed went from 436 to 438.

I shared this BSS #StreetsLA #largeasphaltrepair photo in a few places. I just noticed that it shows a clear example of how "LAR" skirts ADA law. Check out the lamppost (yellow arrow) in the middle of the sidewalk - blocking wheelchair access.
