The benefit of free speech is that it allows someone to say, e.g. 'Don't listen to your GP if they prescribe you Lariam. Insist on a different anti-malarial drug', but that same freedom inevitably allows 'vaccines don't work' to spread. The two opinions do not behave differently in 'sunlight'.

To be fair: Lariam/mefloquine shows that we need to be careful about forcing meds on our soldiers.
That being said: The flu vax is no mefloquine. It is demonstrably safe. And the flu is highly contagious in close quarters.

I never thought we'd reach the stage of having to explain that sick soldiers don't fight anywhere near as effectively as soldiers who aren't sick which means that if your soldiers are sick you're much more likely to lose the fight, but here we are.

We trialed Lariam as a prophylaxis on my second deployment to Panama and stopped treatment after less than a week because everyone was either suicidal, rage-monkeys, or tripping balls. Absolutely nasty stuff.

Former British Army General, Lord Dannatt, says he would not take Mefloquine/Lariam after his son suffered mental health problems after two doses before visiting Africa in the late 1990s.
He made the troops take it, though.
He's since apologized & supports us fully.
