today i received a nightmare diagnosis from my laryngologist. i have abductor spasmodic dysphonia. it's an incurable neurological condition. this means that against my will, my vocal folds will blow open on specific consonants or become breathy randomly. i'm fucking heartbroken and devastated.

Hot and dry weather in LA is an absolute nightmare for my mouth , most people who have radiation in the mouth end up with zero saliva, I have the far less common side effect of too much, and when it’s this dry I can barely talk without doing a“Suffering Succotash” , seeing a laryngologist this week.

I'm currently watching Jungkook's I Am Still documentary and I wish they would have shown the video of his vocal folds when he visited a laryngologist... professional curiosity is killing me 😭

Because of my Parkinson's, pills occasionally get stuck in my esophagus. On my last checkup of that area my laryngologist and SLP asked how I was doing with taking pills. I said when they get stuck I eat a cracker or 2 and that works. I joked that "chocolate works too" — and they charted it! 🤦♀️

btw my right ear is still blocked, but at least it doesn't hurt anymore. have a laryngologist appointment on the 16th and hope that helps. i will continue to suffer in the meantime.

Well, the laryngologist confirms that it's a granuloma on my vocal fold. Thinks it may be stomach acid related - nausea from my other meds, acid reflux, or GERD, so she prescribed some meds for me and we'll follow up in a while. Says that with my paralysis, could take a year to properly heal.
