AOC in Munich: “They are looking to withdraw the United States from the entire world so that we can into an age of authoritarianism — of authoritarians that can carve out the world, where Donald Trump can command the Western Hemisphere & Latin America as his personal sandbox”

We need to send African, Asian, Middle Eastern, and Latin American observers to go monitor the situation in the US. We are concerned about the way things are handled over there. Political instability in the US is a threat to non-western democracy.

On the left I've included some extracts from the United State's latest National Security Strategy and its view on the Western Hemisphere and Latin America.

On the right I've included extracts from China's Policy Paper on Latin America and the Caribbean.

Worth a read to see the difference imo

But leftists in Western countries are just much better educated about Operation Condor and Suharto, *because* of Western involvement. US involvement in Latin America and Indonesia was heinous, but there's something wrong when these are the *only* Cold War atrocities people are aware of!

The “classical education” right do not actually do any reading of classical texts. They just know that British imperialists knew Latin and Greek and so push for that as a pro-“western-civ” position.
that’s… that’s not… tha… that’s not the illiad

I’m honored to be re-elected as Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee's Western Hemisphere Subcommittee.

I look forward to working with the members of the subcommittee to strengthen U.S. leadership in Latin America and the Caribbean. 1/

What if news reports about the US sounded more like Western media coverage of African, Middle Eastern, and Latin American countries?

To the extent any of this means anything, Latin America is much more "European" than the United States - more Christian, speaks a continental romance language etc.

it becomes this insane non-sequitur. western civilization beseiged by... catholic soccer fans!

Spain's economy has benefited massively from the USA's hostility toward immigrants from Latin America. Since Trump's first term, immigration from Latin America to Spain has been rising, and skilled workers moving to Spain have made it one of the fastest growing economies in western Europe.

Far from choosing sides between the U.S. and China, “Latin American leaders are increasingly adept at performing the public rituals of alignment required by Washington while quietly doubling down on their commercial ties with Beijing,” writes Oliver Stuenkel.
Opinion | Latin Americans Already Have a Serious Partner — and It’s Not Trump
President Trump’s efforts to force the Western Hemisphere into alignment will keep falling short.

by far the funniest part is that their "western" nationalism includes the decidedly not western nations of latin america
What does this imply for those of us who are not Christian, and who labor under the assumption that we're protected by the First Amendment?

🇫🇮🇺🇸 Stubb: Under America First, U.S. foreign policy interests are ranked as follows: first, the Western Hemisphere — North America, South America, and Latin America; second, the Indo-Pacific; third, Europe; fourth, the Middle East; and fifth, Africa.

They are simply taking back the jobs, homes, and livelihoods that were stolen from them. And when you take an actual Latin American history course, you quickly find out that it's basically a tour of one western-backed coup after another.

5/ Key hubs are emerging outside Western influence: Indonesia for battery materials, Morocco for EU-bound cathodes and hydrogen, Brazil for Latin American manufacturing. China is creating alternative supply chains that bypass US-allied networks entirely.

Trump: ‘We don’t need’ Latin America
The president’s comments seem poised to throw cold water on hopes Trump would re-engage partners in the Western Hemisphere.
