I wanted to do drag and reorder at first but man....it's tough huh?
Need a way to check as default...

we made a python program for WHODUNNIT? that lets us export layeredimage declarations + images through a guided console app, i want to release it but it requires a specific layer structure for it to work...
if any folks want to try it out let me know, would love to know if it would still b useful

ren'py struggle post: i didn't know you couldn't use a layeredimage as a side image. except. you can. you just have to use a LayeredImageProxy. for some reason. thank god some rando posted about this on reddit 3 years ago 🫠

45) If you have facial expressions for a character on a CG and want to connect it to your character definition and Say statement attributes to their CG self, create a new Layeredimage using the same character name plus an attribute for the CG.
(This is great if you also use lipflap in your CGs!)

im going to try to make him a Real Boy today (aka export all the parts and turn him into a layeredimage in ren'py). i didn't expect him to have many moving parts but the reality was UHHHHHH HE HAS A LOT

i was trying to go the long way around. reading the layeredimage tutorial and trying to if_any my way through the problem. the idea that there could be, within one layered image, two groups named the same thing in separate places, which would behave as if they were one group, hadn't occurred to me

The tutorial comes with illustrations and dummy assets so you can practice things and see the result right away.
This first release covers LayeredImage and two custom scripts I made: cursor parallax and flashlight effect!
I hope this project can be a useful resource for the community! ^^

My vns these days tend to take heavy advantage of RenPys layeredimage system, with separated elements to easily combine into a lot of expressions. But for a starter project I'd recommend about 5 facial expressions to get started - you can always add more as you implement the script and see gaps!

something that made me quite anxious about the beauty marks of aquarius is that i'm going to need a layered side sprite for some scenes for jonas, and i never did layered sprites for side pictures, so i was quite worried about how to set up that

That is VERY ambitious! My game with 100k words only has 4 poses for the MAIN characters and then any number of customizable expressions due to how layeredimage works.
Like, you can do it, but depending on how big your game is, SHOULD you do it? Be aware of "feature creep" with games!
