#Lightweighting
at the end of the day I think I do for the most part want to draw a marriage of jnts intricate lightweighting work that creates beautifully implied ribcages+the asymmetrical, janky, heavily cabled and pseudoorganic shapes of Nihei's silicon life w/ their latex and pleather "clothes"

“The OECD calls for policies to promote the "lightweighting of vehicles," promoting the use of smaller cars. Clearly, the trend to giant SUVs and pickups with bigger, heavier batteries is a problem…seventy-eight percent of ocean microplastics are synthetic tire rubber…”
Tire wear is a huge source of PM2.5 and ultrafine particle emissions, which everyone studiously ignores. Piles of studies conclude that we should be building lighter and smaller cars and encourage alternate forms of transport, but nobody wants to do that.
Another major source of particulates: Tire wear
Surprise! The amount of PM2.5 and PM10 is proportional to the weight of the vehicle.

yeah also they could laser cut this out of a lighter material

am legit impressed by the people using additive for lightweighting and emergency spares in production aircraft, but quadcopter frame seems silly

Elon bills himself as "Chief Engineer". He reportedly personally decided against a flame diverter in 2023, causing a failure. And the root problem with Starship appears to be Elon's overpromising (a large payload + full reuseability, which requires lightweighting the rocket to the point it fails).
Fallout from Starship ‘mishap’ grows

Anyway you can also be sure that we have some shiny "science" (aka not just a technique paper) just around the corner, where we use the lift out and analytical techniques to understand engineer materials that help us inform lightweighting strategies for electric vehicles and more. 13/13.

That sounds to me like vital administrative work to do regardless!

I also want to distinguish between vehicle size controls and lightweighting. Vehicle size is important for a variety of reasons, only one of which is weight. Likewise, lots of ways to reduce weight w/out messing w/ materials/frame
