A juvenile Stone Centipede, Order Lithobiomorpha #photography #bugs
and while I intend to go fantastical with his design, I need to decide if he "evolved" from a scutigeromorpha (house centipede, my original vision), a scolopendromorpha (tropical/bark centipede), or lithobiomorpha (stone centipede) mostly so I can figure out what foundations I'm working off of...

Ich glaube, das ist ein Hundertfüßer (Chilopoda), die gehören zu den Tausendfüßern.
Ganz wild rumgeraten würde ich sagen, das ist ein Steinläufer (Lithobiomorpha). Die leben normal am liebsten im Laubstreu oder der obersten Bodenschicht.
Ich glaube, das ist ein Hundertfüßer (Chilopoda), die gehören zu den Tausendfüßern.

The problem is that most centipedes can't be identified to species based on photos, especially the Lithobiomorpha. Colin's is likely a juvenile Lithobiidae. Having more IDers could sort some more photos to order or family, bit it wouldn't get us closer to species IDs.

A slightly odd one maybe, but dose anyone know of any resources on / have experience with maintaining temperate centipedes in culture, especially non Lithobiomorpha? #myriapods #entomology

Técnicamente, el término escolopendra debería limitarse a los ciempiés del orden Scolopendromorpha (Lithobius pertenece a Lithobiomorpha), aunque a veces se use como sinónimo de ciempiés (nombre genérico para todos los miriápodos de la clase Chilopoda). He aquí el "problema" de los nombres comunes 😜
