there's a cool looking job opening working on soil myriapods in Germany, but they only want full PhDs. someone go get that and blow the pauropods a kiss for me

"Spiders aren't bugs, they're arachnids" annoys me so much because bug just means little creepy-crawly, not insect specifically. Nobody corrects you to say "Roly-polies are crustaceans" or "Centipedes are myriapods." It's anti-spider propaganda.
This place needs some Innocuous Discourse pronto. Quote this with a take that’s not political or aggressive

Like most myriapods and insects, centipedes breathe through pores in their sides called spiracles. She’s breathing hard here thinking she’s wrestling live prey, and you can see the valves opening and closing to take in more air.

Many myriapods spend a good deal of effort giving their offspring the best possible start in life, even if they don’t provide direct care. This female Narceus seals each egg in wood pulp and feces, carefully molding these protective capsules (and first meals) with her legs and mouthparts.

I made this to bug my kiddo who gets mad at me when I call spiders and crabs bugs. 😂 As far as I'm concerned all arthropods are bugs!

No! All myriapods are good myriapods!
Not-even-hot-take: all millipedes are gentle and beguiling — and their nasty-ass centipede cousins give them a bad name.
did you know that some New Mexico deserts have gentle and beguiling millipedes

I won't be able to make this cause I'll be caving, but tune in if you want to learn about myriapods in a friendly environment!
Myriapod Meet Up 2025 — 25 March, 8AM - 5PM (EDT). This online event will include short talks, and a chance to share and discuss research about myriapods (and other multipedes, e.g. Onychophora). Anyone may participate in this free event (no need to give a talk).

Of the nearly 1.8 million animal species that have been described by science, about 84 percent are arthropods.

And we heard that if you say “arthropod” 3 times in a row, one of the 400,000 species of beetles will appear.
