#Localvore
I know there is a certain shame in moving back to your hometown. But at least for me, my hometown is pretty awesome. You can be blatantly trans in Ann Arbor and no one is going to bat an eye. Kerrytown is the gayest place I've ever been. The food is safe to eat because we have a localvore mentality

Hey, remember when everyone becoming a "localvore" was going to save the climate?
I read this guy's book and I'm sorry to say that "bioregional governance" is just another page of the Boomer NIMBY playbook. Was looking for something else, turned out to be infuriating. Also contains the phrase "indigenous wisdom" which made me want to throw the book across the house.
Jeremy Lent describes the consequences of a society stretched to its limits and what can replace it in his book “Ecocivilization.”

Yes, farm to table and localvore are a bit pretentious.
But eating that way prevents this problem.

8 jars of red pepper cranberry jelly with cardamom.
Low sugar and delicious! I like the bit of spice the cardamom gives. First time making this and I'll definitely make it again. Less syrupy and more flavourful that store bought cranberry sauce or jelly.

People take so much for granted!

I have been a seasonal eater for decades, and primarily a localvore as well, but it's a choice and if I want a grapefruit in January, I can get one which is truly incredible.

Farm to Table: The Localvore Movement and Its Benefits.
Imagine, for a moment, biting into a tomato that actually tastes like sunshine and summer earth. It is heavy, warm from the sun, and its juices run down your chin with a complex, sweet, and slightly acidic depth that no supermarket fruit could ever replicate. We have all experienced that hollow, wat

Firstly, actually butter because 2 ingredients as opposed to a laundry list (except Oliviani for my dad, heart issues). Whole foods, whole grains, farm to table, localvore, eat the rainbow, fabric totes instead of plastic, health food stores & farmers markets. Sunscreen.
American 90s butter moms are VERY different from my NZ 90s butter mum.

I'm a mix of localvore, plastic avoider, and cheap-as scottish, vege gardener, who avoids supermarkets and generally paying for anything.

That's why I end up on adventures making soap and growing wheat and foraging pinenuts and scavenging dead fall wood.

If that worked it would have already been organized by workers in an ad hoc manner. Localvore was a company that tried to do it

the meat is used successfully in Moscow restaurant Krasnodar Bistro, as part of the growing Russian localvore movement and as a 'foodie' craze. It appears on the menu as a burger, hotdog, dumplings, or wrapped in cabbage leaves, with the flavour being somewhere between turkey and pork (wikipedia)

This is a dream of mine!
Family style localvore, food events! And we are going to have the right place to host them, other than it’s kinda rural. Rural folks need community and less work to eat, through economy of scale too! ❤️

I read small wonders recently (2002) and so much of it really resonated right now. I recommend reading it. Also I’m now obsessed with the concept of being a localvore - catch me at the farmers market today buying my wine and flour

On the road: Latvia, then and now
Latvians don't shy away from their darker history Latvia defines itself on its own terms, apart from its history of being subjugated by Imperial Poland, Sweden, Lithuania, Germany, and Russia. Latvian is now the language taught in schools, Latvia restaurants are proudly localvore, and holidays have a Latvian twist. Summer Solstice is a national holiday that involves staying up all night, visiting friends and family, and bonfires. But Latvians don’t shy away from their darker history. I went in part because I wanted to learn about the Jews of Latvia. Though early Baltic tribes rebuffed Jewish settlements, Jews arrived in the

I'm really gonna miss the winter farmer's market

Surviving off of root vegetables, cabbages, and cold-storage apples

Even if ramp season is going to blow my mind again this spring, it feels right to get into the winter rhythm for a while

First, it's not "for survival" in a vacuum, in 2025 it's a trade off btwn time and labor vs # calories and quality, and I'll circle back to this.

The minute you harvest a plant it's disconnected from its life support and begins decomposing.
