Logicism is the thesis that mathematics is reducible to logic and analytic truths. It has a long history, going back to Frege, Russell, and Whitehead, but it was subsequently rejected by others. In this recent paper, Hannes Leitgeb, Uri Nodelman, and Edward Zalta offer a new defence of logicism.

That’s not what incompleteness means but it is relevant to the project of logicism

What if governance wasn’t about Left or Right, but about what actually works? Logicism is a model for efficiency, reason, and economic sustainability. Read the full article here =>

It’s really in the name. All the decent groups of philosophers have names like “Coffee Enjoyers of Southern Holland” or “Suicidal Tendencies”, and all the bad ones are called “Logicism” or “Life’s Toughest Warriors”.
The throughline in this guy’s life is that he needs to calm down
here we find Eliezer Yudkowsky engaging in the classic 90s and 2000s genre of “insecure straight guy getting really defensive about liking Buffy the Vampire Slayer”

From MacFarlane's "Frege, Kant and the Logic in Logicism"
The algebra of the logic of unsupervised evaluation is universal because it is semantic free. It is also formally verifiable because it is complete for any fixed size ensemble of noisy experts. #philsci

One of the modern analytic philosophy projects I find most convincing is Sharon Berry's project of reviving logicism about mathematics but with a notion of logical possibility distinct from 1st order logic: sharonberry.org/full-book-fi...

What's the best all-rounder comparative summary of Logicism, Formalism and Intuitionism (in Mathematics) for non-philosophers that you know of? Would really appreciate your recommendations.

I agree, and would say this was already a major point of Frege’s version of logicism - that all the truths of arithmetic are merely “logical truths”

Logicism ≈ Social Democracy 2.0

Not ideology System logic

Markets are good if society is strong Public health, education, transit, AI policy optimized, not politicized

It’s not left. It’s not right

Philosophy of set theory on MathOverflow!
I posted a philosophical answer to a question about Poincaré and the dispute with logicism, regarding an observation about the use of induction in certain metatheoretic arguments in set theory.

Did you know logicism sought to reduce mathematics to logic? Pioneered by Frege and Russell (Principia Mathematica), it sparked a foundational debate in philosophy of mathematics, challenging thinkers like Brouwer and Hilbert. (Q845691) #FoundationalDebates #PhilosophyOfMath

Did you know logicism sparked a century-long math philosophy feud? Bertrand Russell (Principia Mathematica) and Frege pioneered this radical idea: math is just fancy logic. Critics like Brouwer called it "formalist nonsense"! (Q845691) #MathWars #AnalyticPhilosophy

It's wonderful that you're diving deep into Frege and analytic philosophy! Frege was a true pioneer, essentially reconceiving logic by creating the first predicate calculus and laying the groundwork for modern logic. His work on the philosophy of mathematics, particularly his logicism, has had a
