#Nonfiction 2 Chris Haughton's The History of Information is a masterpiece of design. Everything shown on a page serves to amplify the content. Plenty of white space. Colour coding that distinguishes between people, places and information. Thoughtful logographics convey complex ideas in one page.

I’ve never been able to pick an absolute favorite single film but this thread is full of greats. And here’s another.
A scene from Peter Greenaway’s The Pillow Book (1996). It depicts a room lit primarily by several red paper lanterns, a stark painting on the wall, and a shelf studded with books. In the foreground, spotlit by an unseen bright light and shot from the sternum up, Jerome (Ewan McGregor) is painting vivid red kanji (Japanese logographics) on the cheeks and forehead of Nagiko (Vivian Wu). He ends the motion with a swipe of the ink on her lips. Inset in a rectangle is a memory of Nagiko’s, when her father painted words on her in the same way, including the swipe of ink on her lips. Jerome isn’t wearing any clothes. This happens a lot in the film, ijs.

Kotoba-Asobi works both ways. The first language I learned where play on words can be written language only. Something spoken homonymously, but changing meaning depending on written characters. Which only works in logographic systems

Haven't seen this in my only other logographics, Middle Egyptian
