Granma & her 6 siblings crossed the Coquet at Brinkburn by rowing boat to get to school at Longframlington. A canny shank. No adults. One less child every year or so to row the boat - til just one gt aunt had to do it. The stories she had. I have a photo of the boat....

Yes, there are some in Newcastle, Gateshead, S Tyneside and Sunderland - which would have been historically Durham and Northumberland, but big gaps. None in present day North Tyneside. Just one in Northumberland (Longframlington). Two in Co Durham, in Hetton le Hole and in Framwellgate Moor.
