I love you. I wrote this poem the day after Halloween and promptly forgot to post it. Never mind, it's here now.
Love poem: Last night you’d have found me leaving roses on the gravestones and a kiss on one or two in my signature red lippy I don’t believe I was alone because there was the hint of a shoe-scratch on the old York flags and a laugh once that might have been wind in the yews It was cold for me in day-clothes and the shadows stood agley or budged I don’t know when I turned pumpkin but suddenly it’s wakeful daylight you’ve grabbed me and we’re dancing down the street past Starbucks and oh boy there’s all my ancestors grinning and clapping and joining in I can see you’re thinking of something sharp to say but it matters not one damn because we’ve forgotten ghost-night Soul-day’s made a party and you just can’t keep from smiling

If I were to covet death, I'd choose you as the cause— Invade my lungs, and chew my heart, Infect my very blood. Then as I curl inside your skin, Our flesh will intertwine— I'll be the smoke inside your lungs, You'll be the breath in mine.

Citadel Just a crooked phantom castle On a glassy crooked shore— Inside she keeps her memories, Beneath it lies her heart. It beats in abalone, Wrapped in blackest pearl— And should he ever ask it, She would trade it for his world. It'd been crafted from the silence She'd swallowed every day, Yet still he heard it whisper As it softly sang his name. His voice, a matching rhythm, Within his eyes the key To unlock the crooked heart she held, If only they could see. Her defenses he could shatter With just a measured look— No longer a crooked castle, But an enchanted open book. Contemplating the Physics of Water Standing silent Beneath a shower Of stinging hot needles, Fingers crushed Against an unforgiving wall. Watching Skin turn pink, As I slowly Turn bathwater into oceans. Beneath my feet— Escape speaks my name. If only I could craft a boat And follow it back To the sea.
