Ora che abbiamo introdotto il parsec non vi stupirà sapere che per le distanze tra le galassie viene usato diffusamente il Megaparsec (Mpc = 1 milione di parsec). La galassia del Triangolo M33 dista ~0.9 Mpc, M101 ~6.6 Mpc, l'ammasso della Vergine circa 20 Mpc.
Questa foto ritrae un'area tra le costellazioni della Vergine e della Chioma di Berenice. Può sembrare una foto anonima, ma per me è una delle immagini più incredibili che si possano ottenere da casa. State vedendo l'ammasso di galassie della Vergine.
