#MA-XRF
Our team attended the BAPCR Conference Forging Ahead: Metals in Paintings.
Highlights included: Julia Nagle sharing insights into conserving metal rods in works by Jesús Rafael Soto. Rachel Scott, Fiona Mann, Joyce Townsend on Burne-Jones. And Giulia de Vivo's MA-XRF imaging of metal leaf.

Nifty! Ty

Surface treatments will definitely mess up xrf 😭

Yeah, if you crank up the ma on the xrf you can go deeper, but then you returns get all messed up. I've had to explain that too far too many people 😂

Beautiful torc, for sure!!!!

The Hidden Standard in Chinese Materials Analysis
Skyray XRF Fluorescence Spectrometer A single instrument now governs compliance decisions across China’s manufacturing, recycling, and mining supply chains. The Skyray XRF spectrometer is that gatekeeper. For metallurgists sorting scrap alloys and environmental inspectors screening soil for heavy metals, the bottleneck is the same: time. The Skyray XRF eliminates it. Using energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence technology and a high-resolution silicon drift detector, it identifies elements from magnesium to uranium in seconds.

(Fragments of) medieval manuscripts were often re-used in bookbindings. MA-XRF scanning can penetrate the bindings without having to take them apart and so make long lost texts legible. One of the finds is a 12th century manuscript containing a text by early 8th-century English scholar Bede.

Application of mobile-macroscale scanning X-ray fluorescence (mobile-MA-XRF) imaging in paleontology: analyses of vertebrate fossil specimens from Messel conserved in different solid and liquid media
Cutting-edge analytical instrumentation is increasingly being developed and applied to the analysis of fossils. X-ray fluorescence (XRF) imaging spectroscopy is a powerful tool to resolve the elementa...

Out! We wondered what information is retained in the elemental chemistry of an animal poop 💩 that has fossilized - could it be a proxy? 🐊🦖🐢

I sometimes take advantage of the analytical equipment at my real job. This is a Cambrian arthropod (probably not a Beckwithia) from the Wheeler shale of Utah. I used the XRF (X-ray fluorescence) to highlight iron and phosphorus. This is a 500 Ma digestive system.
