Chandigarh, March 15, 2025 (Bharat Khabarnama Bureau) In a swift and decisive operation, police teams from Moga and Malout have jointly conducted an encounter resulting in the arrest of three accused involved in the murder of Shiv Sena worker from Moga city named Mangat Ram. The operation, carried out within 24 hours of the crime led to an exchange of fire between the police and the accused leaving all three injured.

Chandigarh, February 22, 2025 (Bharat Khabarnama Bureau) The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Sunday, has arrested Suresh Kumar, a clerk posted at the Nagar Council, Malout, in Sri Muktsar Sahib district, for accepting a bribe of Rs 20000 from a underprivileged widow.  Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said that the aforementioned accused has been arrested based on a complaint lodged by a resident of Malout.

The panchayat of Enna Khera village near Malout has allegedly socially boycotted the family of a Dalit youth who married a girl from the upper caste of the same village on July 11. The panchayat had on July 31, 20 days after the wedding, passed a resolution against intra-village “runaway” marriages, which was also announced from the village gurdwara. The resolution said if the village boy and girl elope and get married, then they would be expelled from the village. Any villager who supported them would also be dealt with severely, it said.

It has been almost three months since Malout subdivision has been without a regular Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM). The post is vacant ever since SDM Sanjeev Kumar was transferred on May 7. The subdivision covers two key Assembly constituencies — Malout and Lambi — represented by Cabinet Ministers Dr Baljit Kaur and Gurmeet Singh Khudian, respectively. Despite the political significance of the area, no full-time officer has been appointed yet. Gidderbaha SDM Jaspal Singh Brar is currently holding the additional charge of Malout. He is also serving as the Joint Commissioner of the Bathinda Municipal Corporation.
