#HEATTER
This Chocolate Mousse Torte from legendary cookbook author Maida Heatter was our most requested dessert recipe in 1972 — and it stands the test of time. nyti.ms/45LyQ72

Going somewhere? This is the cake you should take with you — tall and perfectly-streuseled, this blueberry crumb cake from the late, great Maida Heatter is what a perfect summer bake looks like to me.

"Happiness is baking cookies. Happiness is giving them away. And serving them, and eating them, talking about them, reading and writing about them, thinking about them, and sharing them with you." ~ Maida Heatter

* (The rights were tied up with Heatter-Quigley, a production company which otherwise worked exclusively in developing game shows (High Rollers, Hollywood Squares). In fact, Wacky Races had originally been intended as a kids' game show, but that element was dropped in production.)

This is not great Heatter.

Daily Hanna Barbera

Peter Perfect drove the Turbo Terrific (aka the Varoom Roadster) in Wacky Races (1968) - he has a thing for Penelope Pitstop.

Wacky Races was produced by Heatter-Quigly, makes of Hollywood Squares, High Rollers and other game shows.

Might've gone mad and bought a whole bunch of pulp reprints. Gil Brewer, wildly underrated. Douglas Sanderson's early gay novel. Female-written crime novel filmed as Otto Preminger noir classic! A whole bunch of fatale-type femmes. Hot diggetty!

There are a few YT vids of THE CELEBRITY GAME, a sort of primordial Hollywood Squares (another Heatter-Quigley show) starring Carl Reiner with Oscar Levant as one of the celebs. And he is funny, funny, funny. #TheBandWagon #TCMParty

I blame my Mario cart obsession on Wacky Races.
Wacky Races (intro) 1968
Wacky Races is an American animated television series produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions and Heatter-Quigley Productions. The series was possibly inspired...

An old roommate made something from a Maida Heatter cookbook that was chocolate batter poured into a pie plate and baked. It came out like chewy brownie crust with chocolate mousse fǰilling, and holy moly it was heaven!
I can't find the recipe but there's an entire cookbook for chocolate!

Maida Heatter has to be an AI, right, even if it had to travel back 50 years in order to inflict this upon us

I know this one; basically Wacky Races was originally going to have a game show segment where kids guess who will win the race in order to win prizes and despite the fact that the gameshow segment was removed, the gameshow company, Heatter-Quigley Productions, still half owned all the characters

WHEW: I guessed right about the salt (for anyone who read my earlier panicked baking post)! And this chocolate-gingerbread cake (from Maida Heatter's Happiness is Baking) is DELISH. Happy Sunday baking!

A fun holiday activity: take a cue from Maida Heatter and throw brownies at people. You can get out your aggressions and they taste really good, so instead of getting mad, everyone will thank you! www.eater.com/24322870/mai...

PDQ was around in 1965. It lent its name to a game show it sponsored from the pre-Hollywood Squares mind of Merrill Heatter.

That's the thing though.

Hanna-Barbera owned the trademarks to the characters and series outright and co-owned the copyright with Heatter-Quigley.

Heatter-Quigley's stake was largely for the unproduced game show portion and held by them but not included when they sold their company to Filmways.

I like how you and @sklperry.bsky.social write recipes from the perspective of someone who has actually made them before. Very few people do that. Joan Nathan, Maida Heatter, sometimes King Arthur, come to mind, but it's rare. I like touches like "it will look wrong, but keep going".
