#MC303
The MC-303’s repeating patterns and layered textures create space for the listener’s attention to shape the experience, making subtle shifts feel as important as major changes.

I've always felt that the guy who was clearly in communication with several major hallucinogens on the 1998 Roland MC303 demo video, didn't get enough credit for his work.

Heres three of his peak moments...

Around 2000 or so I bought a Roland mc303 which was a multitrack rompler groovebox and you could make loops with like congas, synth sax and wind. Not trying to brag but I got pretty good at playing it with my feet. Even the button combos I could do. I really should have stuck with that as my thing 😔

I know nothing good comes from dwelling on regrets but if I could go back and tell my younger self one thing it would be “keep learning how to play the mc303 rompler groovebox with your feet.”

Am I a bad person for thinking the MC303 did it best? 🥺 #SynthSky www.youtube.com/shorts/09t5d...

Kind of want a MC303 now, never had one!

It's Jamuary which means MC303 fun.
Yes it sounds rubbish, but in terms of fun, not much comes close.

Also, ignore the "missing" second display. That's just LCD/camera frame-rate hijinks.

Roland MC303 (£50):

Old skool techno; no box, manuals or PSU, just the unit; open to swap offers for fun little studio toys. :)

Ich sehe eine Roland MC303 🤓

True. I knew him back when he was about 17 or 18, producing under the name SCNTST on Boysnoize. Very quiet and shy lad. He was mixing his tracks down using iPod earphones and was excited at his first hardware purchase (an MC303) & said he had no idea what gear was good or bad

@citizenhelene.bsky.social A rompler Stan? Now that's interesting. Act like I just talked shit about the MC303 and convince me I'm wrong.

@offkeyindustries.bsky.social as per our discussion yesterday I need to make a confession 😣

Just bought a Roland MC303 offa eBay for £140 in “as new” condition!

Please forgive my sins

It’ll be a bit of side fun if nothing else

My first synth the MC303, remember trying to programme Chime on it via Future Music.

I sold my Rm1x 3 years ago. It was in great nick. All the buttons, display, floppy drive worked. Lovely bit of kit. Get one! My MC303 is in very good condition as well - I thonk that one of the red LEDs in the number display is gone, but all fine otherwise.

Nearly 30 years old, and this machine still holds its own! As the first-ever groovebox, it can still compete with—or even outperform—many modern ones. I'll be sharing more full-length tracks with this beauty soon. Ever owned one? Drop your thoughts in the comments!

Funny that you associate a music production mag with the chorus of a song loosely based on a preset sequence from Roland's MC303 groovebox.

Oh god! The preset patterns on the Boss DR202!

Its like they never learned anything from the MC303.

The MC303 was the very first bit of gear I used to make music, having borrowed my mates after he bought the 505.

I therefore needed one back in my life and was waiting until I found a mint one. This is as good as they get.
